Game Nook started in 2016 the way many small businesses do: with a vision, a set of values, and a garage.
In 2018 we moved into Small Shops Mall, the original name for Geek Valhalla, which gave us the space to grow into a more traditional retail store. With a lot of hard work, we've nearly reached what we set out to build: a retail location that encourages people to play.
Our values are a gamer's values
Our values are simple, and they move in lockstep with gaming: hard work, persistence, integrity, skill building, and optimism in the face of adversity. Being the best gamer you can be takes every one of them.
To “get good” at any game, you need these virtues. Whether you intend to or not, you'll pick up a healthy dose of each while being entertained by the game itself and by the community you play with.
That's why we chose to be a game store. We're not a card store, a miniatures store, a hobby shop or a collectibles shop. We sell games, and the values and lifestyle of a gamer, and we approach retail as one of the greatest games of all.
Games are for…
Education
Games teach us math and statistics, social interaction and communication, and, through their themes and references, the myths and cultures of the world.
Entertainment
Competing with and challenging ourselves against our rivals and friends is, first and foremost, fun.
Enrichment
In a safe setting, free of real-world consequences, you can test and push the limits of what you're capable of: from mental resilience, to competing with grace, to how you encourage friends and foes alike to be the best versions of themselves.
Everyone
Wherever you're from, wherever a game's themes come from, and wherever your opponent is from, gamers come from everywhere and games are for everyone. When we all sit down at the table to play, we're all gamers.
